This bronze brooch, also known as a fibula, was found at the site of the Roman fort at Carpow in Perthshire. It was imported from the Rhineland and worn between 208 and 211.

The brooch is of a type known as a divided bow brooch. It is decorated on the foot with dot-and-ring ornamentation and the surface has been tinned to give a silver-like appearance. The pin in missing.

The Roman army obtained supplies from three zones: locally (either by the army or natives), within the Roman province of Britannia, or further afield in the Roman empire. The fort at Carpow was used for a very short time, allowing close dating of finds.
