Fashion plate, from Le Petit Courrier des Dames
Add to album

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from Le Petit Courrier des Dames, a weekly fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate is entitled, 'Modes de Paris' and illustrates two evening dresses. Dated 14 December, 1861, it is signed, 'Pauquet' and 'A.Portier'.

The dress skirts are enormous and would have been supported by the artificial crinoline or hooped cage which had been introduced early in 1856.

A Pauquet also produced drawings for Le Journal des Demoiselles and The Queen. Other artists who contributed to the Petit Courrier de Dames were A de Taverne, Laure Noël, Hervy and Madame de Closmenil.
