Razor of bronze
Add to album

This bronze razor was found at Traprain Law in East Lothian. It was probably imported from Central Europe between 750 and 450 BC.

The blade of the razor is nicked and chipped. The hole at one end was to allow suspension, perhaps from a belt, to show off this prestigious personal possession.

Bronze razors were used as prestige shaving gear from the second millennium BC onwards. This item is evidence for continuing contacts across the North Sea around the mid first millennium BC.
