Snuffers
Add to album

Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These iron snuffers were dug up in London. They date from the 17th or 18th century.

The scissors-type snuffers have round handles and a pear-shaped box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off to avoid it falling to the ground or accidentally causing fire. The box is without a lid.
