from Haddington, East Lothian
This stone carving of the Flagellation of Christ dates from the late 15th century. It comes from Haddington in East Lothian, possibly from St Mary's Church. This scene framed a window and probably formed part of a retable depicting the Passion.
Christ is shown centrally beneath a canopy. Both hands are tied to a pillar behind his head and his naked body is lashed by two soldiers on either side.
