Fashion plate, from The QueenThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from The Queen, a monthly magazine published in London. The plate illustrates two day dresses and is dated 4 August, 1877. These tie-back dresses with long trains were not as narrow or restricting as they appear. The fullness of the skirt was pulled to the back by interior tapes. The style of the bodice was known as a 'cuirasse' bodice. By 1874 the 'cuirasse' bodice had become an important element in fashion. It was a corset-shaped bodice with a design somewhat similar to that of a man's jacket. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
