The cup-shaped measure has a skirted foot and handle, and no lid. It is stamped with the city of Glasgow verification mark and engraved '1/4 Gill'.
Measures such as these were tested initially by the Dean of Guild of the city to verify that they were correct. Once they had passed the test they were stamped with a verification mark.
