Coin (reverse), 12 pound piece from reign of William II (III of England)This is the reverse of a gold 12 pound piece from the reign of William II (III of England). Also known as a 'pistole', it is one of the last Scottish gold coins to be minted. The reverse depicts the initials, 'W' and 'R' on either side of the royal arms. Above the arms is a crown. The Latin inscription around the edge translates as, 'King of Great Britain, France and Ireland 1701'.
