This flint knife was found in a chambered cairn at Sliddery Water on Arran in the Inner Hebrides. It was placed in the tomb as a grave gift, to accompany the dead. It dates from between 3500 and 3000 BC.

The knife is oval, with small flakes removed along one edge. The outer skin, or 'cortex', of the parent flint nodule is present over the rest of the upper surface.

This knife is made of good quality flint which was probably imported from the abundant supplies on the coast of Co. Antrim in Ireland.
