made in Italy
This maiolica plate was made in Italy, probably at Umbria or Lazio. It may date from the 17th century. It is entirely reconstructed from pieces that were found, according to the Milanese vendor, 'in houses of Piano Scarano and Canino, small villages near Viterbo'.
The plate is covered with tin-glaze and painted in polychrome with a medallion of network and a border of alternating stylised foliage.
