RecordFashion plate, from La Mode Illustreépublished in Paris
Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate is marked, 'Supplement to No. 44 - October 1904'. It illustrates a day dress for outdoor wear with a train and a hat. The outfit is shown with a matching fur stole and muff draped over a chair to the side. The plate is signed, 'J. Chapuis'. Colour-printed fashion plates had begun to appear by the late 1880s. By the end of the 19th century, they had almost superseded hand-coloured plates. A few publications continued to issue hand-coloured plates into the early years of the 20th century. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
