Knife (piece)This piece of a bronze knife was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used between 80 and 180 AD. This picture shows the back of the knife. The handle and part of the blade survive, with a decorative mount at the base of the blade. There is a gap in the handle, presumably where an organic component fitted. A number of knives of various shapes and sizes were found at Newstead, presumably designed for a variety of purposes. Some, like this one, have decorative mounts.
