Model of a scribbler, used for carding wool
Add to album

Scribblers were used in the first of several stages of carding wool. They produced a broad thin lap of fibres which was then passed to the next carding engine. This model of a scribbler dates from the 19th century.

The scribbler's revolving cylinders carry thousands of tiny wire points which comb out the raw fibres.
