RecordAmphoraFrom Inchtuthil, Perthshire
AmphoraAn amphora is a large, distinctive pottery container used to transport perishable goods over long distances. This pottery example was found at the site of the Roman fort at Inchtuthil in Perthshire. It had been used to transport Spanish fish sauce. The amphora is partly restored. An administrative system existed to ensure that the Roman army was supplied with food and other goods. Quartermasters were responsible for obtaining supplies, and dealt with army craftsmen, various traders, and the native population.
