Skeleton-topped ball-point pen, for Hallowe'en celebrations

This Hallowe'en pen is one of a range of inexpensive items sold for Hallowe'en celebrations in turn-of-the-millennium Britain. American influence is clear from the cartoon images along the body of the pen.

This plastic ball-point pen is operated by pushing down a top-hatted skeleton fixed to the top of the pen, making him squat. Along the pen's body are several Hallowe'en images, including ghosts, monsters, pumpkin lamps, a skeleton and vampire bats.

The 'horror show' paraphernalia associated with Hallowe'en night celebrations in 1990s Britain reflect an Americanised, Hollywood-influenced version of the traditional All Hallows Eve festival - itself a mixture of Christian and popular practices.
