Add to album

Box containing tea jar in its own brocade bag and box. The utensils used in the ceremony are kept in special containers. They are usually marked with the maker's or owner's name, and possibly a poem.

This light wooden box, which contains the tea jar, has no mark because it was commissioned by foreign collectors. It has never actually been used in a tea ceremony. The box has a silk green tie.

In Japan the tea ceremony, chanoyu, is a special occasion marked by its harmony, reverence, purity and calm. The utensils used in the ceremony are kept in special containers.
