This pewter half-gill measure, dating from the mid 19th century was used as a standard for selling spirits. Engraved 'Cambuslang Old Wine Stores', it has City of Glasgow excise marks.
The lid is stamped with a crown surrounded by the legend 'Imperial Half Gill'.
To ensure fair trade, burghs each kept a set of standard weights and measures against which those in commercial use could be checked to ensure they were accurate.
