Plate, made at Kirkcaldy, FifeThis earthenware dinner plate was produced around the 1880s at David Methven & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It was made for export to south-east Asia and was acquired in Malong on the Indonesian island of Java in 1992. The plate is transfer printed with a pattern called 'Canovian'. The town of Kirkcaldy on the north shore of the Firth of Forth was one of the major centres of Scottish pottery production. In the second half of the 19th century it had four separate factories.
