Banknote (forgery), of Carrick, Brown & Company, Ship Bank, Glasgow
Add to album

This is a forgery of a one guinea banknote. Made to look as if it was issued by Carrick, Brown & Company of The Ship Bank, Glasgow, the note is dated 2 March 1813.

The Ship Bank is represented by a vignette of a sailing ship at the top of the note.

The Ship Bank was founded in 1750 by a group of Glasgow tobacco lords. It became one of the more famous 'old' banks of Scotland and developed well, issuing notes up to the value of £5. Carrick, Brown & Company joined the Ship Bank in 1789.
