This porcelain jug with floral decoration was made by the Nautilus Porcelain Company of Possil Pottery in Glasgow. It dates from around 1896.

The jug's spout, base rim and handle are all gilded.

Founded originally as the Saracen Pottery in the Possilpark area of Glasgow in 1875, this firm began manufacturing a wide range of domestic wares, changing its name to the Possil Pottery Co. in 1895. In 1894 the Nautilus Porcelain Company was formed, producing a range of soft paste porcelain wares influenced by Worcester and Limoges. This company then bought the now bankrupt Possil Pottery Co. in 1896. They continued producing both earthenware and porcelain until the company was forced to close in 1911. In 1918 the works were acquired by Tennants the brewers and produced stoneware bottles and jars until 1948.
