PlaqueThis white glazed earthenware plaque shows a man smoking a clay pipe. It was made by Fleming of Glasgow around 1896, supposedly from an earlier mould. White glazed earthenware plaque in white metal frame, showing a low relief bust of a man smoking his pipe, cast from one of Bagnol's moulds by Fleming about 1896 James Fleming became managing partner of the Britannia Pottery and from 1896 it was known as Cochran and Fleming. (Cochran, already the owner of the Verreville Pottery, had established the Britannia pottery as a modern works in 1857, primarily to meet the Canadian export trade).
