This pin is from Linlithgow Palace in West Lothian. It is made of bronze coated with tin to look like silver. Such pins were worn in the hair and were fashionable amongst well-to-do women in the second quarter of the 17th century.

The pin has a flat hexagonal stem and a head shaped like a two headed eagle.

The present Linlithgow Palace dates from 1425, initiated by James I. Both James V and Mary Queen of Scots were born here. In 1746, while pursuing the Jacobites north, British forces under the Duke of Cumberland set fire to the palace, leaving it a ruin.
