Add to album

This earthenware plaque commemorates George IV's visit to Edinburgh in 1822. It was possibly made by Rathbone of Portobello.

In the centre of the plaque there is a moulded bust of George IV in military uniform.

Sir Walter Scott, 1771-1832, orchestrated the royal visit of George IV to Scotland in 1822. The event caused a revival in Scottish dress and customs.
