Rein guide from a yoke
Add to album

This simple bronze rein guide from a yoke, also known as a terret, was found during excavations at a broch at Torwoodlee in Selkirkshire. It was used sometime in the first two centuries AD.

The rein guide is in poor condition, with much corrosion. There are signs of wear on the interior.

Entire carts or wagons from this period rarely survive. Often all that is left are metal fittings and bindings, such as the harness fittings which attached a yoke to the harness.
