RecordSpoonMade in Dundee
SpoonThis silver spoon was made around 1750 by John Steven, a Dundee silversmith. It is known as a rat-tail spoon from the shape of the stem. The spoon has an oval bowl and a rat-tail stem with a rounded end. In the 18th and 19th centuries, making cutlery, or flatware, was the mainstay of many Scottish silversmiths. As eating habits became more sophisticated cutlery items were produced in greater numbers and had an increasingly diverse range of patterns.
