Medal (reverse), commemorating Scottish coronation of Charles I
Add to album

This is the reverse of a gold medal commemorating the Scottish Coronation of Charles I on 18 June 1633 at Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh. During the coronation procession medals such as this were thrown to the crowd by the Bishop of Moray.

The reverse has a thistle and rose tree combined, and the Latin legend which translates as 'From here our roses grew'.

The commemorative medals were also produced in silver. Curiously, some of the silver medals, like some gold ones, have an edge inscription stating that they are made from Scottish gold.
