These rivets are part of a hoard of native and Roman objects, mainly tools, placed in a cauldron and deposited in Carlingwark Loch in Kirkcudbrightshire between 80 and 200 AD.
Iron rivet staple from Carlingwark Loch
People deposited large collections of metalwork in the Bronze Age. The practice became uncommon around 500 BC. A few centuries later, metalwork hoards again are found, but with fewer weapons and more ornaments and tools.
