Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate is marked, 'Supplement to No. 47 - November 1904'. It illustrates a wedding dress with a train and a long veil. In this outfit, the bust is thrown forward by the shape of the corset and the skirt is tight over the hips, flaring to the ground in a bell-shape. This creates an 'S' shape which was very fashionable during this period. Fashion plates of wedding dresses appeared in most of the notable fashion magazines every three or six months. They are a quick and easy way to show how fashion trends changed. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
