Petition form and stickers, for use in`Save the Argylls` campaign

This petition form and stickers were made for use in the public campaign against the disbandment of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, announced in 1968 as part of government defence cuts. The high profile of highland regiments made their survival a political issue in Scotland.

The campaign received considerable support and the government was forced to compromise. The regiment was saved, but radically reduced in strength. However, the need for a larger British military presence in Northern Ireland soon restored it to full strength.
