Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from the Illustrirte Frauen Zeitung, a fashion magazine published in Berlin. The plate illustrates two walking dresses and is dated 17 May, 1880. It is signed, 'B.S'.
The line of these 'tie-back' dresses is broken by puffs, shirrings and pleats. The 'egg-timer' look is achieved by corsetry, boning and lacing up the back.
The Illustrirte Frauen Zeitung first appeared in 1874 and was widely circulated throughout Europe.
