This is the obverse of a silver prize medal of the Highland Society of Scotland. The medal was given to James Gray in 1824.

The obverse is inscribed 'GIVEN / BY THE / Highland Society / OF SCOTLAND / TO / James Gray / 1824'.

The Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland, founded in Edinburgh in 1784, was concerned with developing better agricultural practice. It grew into a large body and today still flourishes as the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.
