Add to albumThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from The Queen, a monthly magazine published in London. The plate illustrates two day dresses with trains and hats and is dated 7 July, 1877.
The plate is signed, 'A. Chaillot' - a well known and admired fashion plate artist of the time.
The Queen was originally founded in 1861 by Samuel Beeton, the husband of the famous Mrs Beeton who wrote the world-renowned cookery book. At first, the magazine had little fashion content and its format was more like a newspaper.
