RecordSoup plate (detail)made in Glasgow
Soup plate (detail)This detail shows the mark of the Glasgow potters, J. and M.P. Bell and Company. It is on the base of a transfer-printed earthenware soup plate, made between 1842 and 1880 and exported to South East Asia. There were many variations in Bell's marks. This one consists of the pattern name 'HARVEST' in between two sheaves of corn. Underneath are the company's initials 'J. & M.P.B. & Co.' Some of Bell's exported plates can still be found in the bazaars and markets of South East Asia. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
