From Strageath, Perthshire
This lead weight was found at the site of the Roman outpost fort at Strageath in Perthshire. It would have been used for weighing items on a balance during the occupation of the fort between 82 and 87 AD.
This picture shows the bottom of the weight.
The Roman world had a highly standardised system for weighing goods. They were weighed either on a balance from which pans were suspended at either end, or on a steelyard. The unit of weight was sometimes inscribed on the weights.
