Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1889, the plate illustrates two day dresses and hats. It is signed, 'Bonnard' and 'I. Desgrange'. The woman on the right is wearing a white boa - a long fluffy scarf of fur or feathers. The other woman is carrying a parasol. Fur and feather boas were very popular in the late Victorian period (1877-1900). Also during this time, parasols were elaborately decorated with embroidery, lace, flowers, ribbons and tassels. The stick and handle were often carved, with bows attached.
