Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1886, the plate illustrates two day dresses with hats. It is signed, 'Bonnard' and 'I. Desgrange'. The bustles on both dresses are quite large and tend to arch up and out from the back. The skirts are draped and trimmed at the back into elaborate bouffants. The lady on the left is holding a fan while the other lady holds a fan and a parasol. Isabelle Desgrange (née Toudouze) was the daughter of Adèle Anaïs Toudouze, one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Isabelle also produced plates for Le Follet, Le Monde Elégant and The Queen. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
