Add to album

This large perforated hammerstone was found near Portpatrick in Wigtownshire. It is hard to date owing to its simplicity of shape, but it may date within the range 2500 to 1000 BC.

This large perforated hammerstone has been made using an oval cobble. The shafthole was drilled from either side, giving it an hourglass shape. There is batter damage to each end, showing that it has been used.
