Pistol barrel of brass

This brass pistol barrel was probably made in Dundee. It dates from 1622.

The strapwork on this barrel is characteristic Renaissance work.

Renaissance features are found in many aspects of design. The Scottish makers of firearms, swords and daggers were skilled craftsmen who produced striking examples of the Scottish Renaissance style.
