Punch
Add to album

This bronze punch was found at Loch Loyal in Sutherland. It was used in metalworking, sometime between 1200 and 750 BC.

The punch is roughly square in cross-section.

Metalworkers used a range of specialist tools, such as punches and tracers, to decorate metal objects. The designs were tried out on trial pieces before applying them to metal.
