Evening suit, by Freda Black

This satin, taffeta, silk and nylon evening suit was designed by the artist Freda Black in 1983.

The evening suit consists of calf-length trousers, a deep-boned cummerbund and a Bolero-shaped collarless jacket with leg o'lamb sleeves. It is made from a range of satins, taffetas, silk and nylon in shades of grey with black and white cotton piping, a canvas collar and nylon boning.

During the 1980s the Scottish Development Agency purchased a number of hand-crafted items for its Scottish Crafts Collection. The aim of the collection was to inform the public of craft production in Scotland through touring exhibitions and education programmes. When the Scottish Craft Council was wound up, the collection was transferred to the National Museums of Scotland.
