Communion plate (back)
This is the back of a pewter communion plate from the Free Church of Scotland in Garvald in East Lothian. Dated 1843, the plate was made by D Cormack of Edinburgh.
The back is stamped with the maker's name, 'D. CORMACK/EDINBRO'.
Both pewter and silver were used to make communion plate. Pewter was cheaper than silver, but when new could be polished to look like silver.
