Fashion plate, from The QueenThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from The Queen, a monthly magazine published in London. The plate illustrates ten different dresses and is dated 5 June, 1886. The top half of the plate consists of three evening dresses with indoor and outdoor day wear on either side. In the bottom half are three evening dresses on the left and two day dresses on the right. Fans, parasols and flowers are used to embellish the plate. The Queen was originally founded in 1861 by Samuel Beeton, the husband of the famous Mrs Beeton who wrote the world-renowned cookery book. At first, the magazine had little fashion content and its format was more like a newspaper. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
