Side view of a silver teapotThis shows the handle and side view of a teapot made in 1879-80 by S. Gordon Guild, a silversmith in Edinburgh. The teapot is part of a three-piece tea set. The decorated panel to the right of the handle is of a Chinese beside a pagoda. The panel on the left is of a Chinaman in a garden. An ivory insulating ring can be seen at the bottom of the handle. Domestic silverware was a mark of taste and status. Customers visiting the silver department of any large department store and those who patronized fashionable silversmiths in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee or Aberdeen found a great range of goods.
