SpoonThis perforated bone spoon was found the site of the Roman fort at at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD and was probably used for catching solids in wine. The spoon has a long slender handle. The oval bowl is cracked. Excavations at Newstead have revealed much about the layout and daily life in Roman forts in Scotland.
