CassieA cassie was a basket for carrying peats. This woven heather example is from Orkney. Heather cassie, roughly circular at the mouth, from Orkney Peat, turf and brushwood were the only fuels for the fire, except where there were local outcrops of coal. Of these, peat was the most important. In the Highlands and Islands, where it is abundant, it is still cut and dried for use at home.
