RecordFurniture footFrom Culbin Sands, Moray
Furniture footThis bronze foot for a small piece of furniture was found at Culbin Sands in Moray. It is a high quality Roman object found on a native site, probably arriving as a gift, either directly or indirectly, from the Romans, sometime between 100 and 200 AD. The foot is in the shape of the body and head of an animal, perhaps a cat, on a round stand. There are many ways in which Roman objects travelled beyond the frontier. Some were the result of trade or diplomatic gifts and bribes by the Romans to local chiefs. Others were then passed on from one native chief to another.
