Add to album

This is the reverse of a copper penny trade token of R. Boog Junior, of Kirkcaldy in Fife. Dated 1797, this token may be regarded as a private token, struck for the designer, R. Boog Junior, to be used as gifts to friends or for exchange.

The reverse depicts a quayside scene with the text 'WEALTH OF NATIONS' above. Several implements sit on the quayside representing various industries e.g. a spinning wheel for the manufacture of material, a barrel for brewing, and a plough for agriculture.

Adam Smith, economist and philosopher, produced his masterpiece 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations' in 1776.
