Coin (reverse), Denarius, of Caius Publicius Malleolus, Aulus Postumius Spurii filius Albinus and Lucius Metellus
This silver denarius was minted in Rome around 95 to 90 BC by the three moneyers Caius Publicius Malleolus, Aulus Postumius Albinus, son of Spurius, and Lucius Metellus. This picture shows the reverse of the coin.
The reverse portrays the goddess Roma seated on a pile of shields, holding a sword and spear. She is being crowned by Victory. On the left is the inscription 'C.MALL' running downwards, referring to one moneyer, and below 'ROMA'.
The design of this coin has been interpreted as symbolising the domination of Rome over her enemies.
