Chair
Add to album

This oak chair is one of a set of five acquired in Aberdeen. The fret-carved splat back is characteristic of mid-18th century chairs but also of later' imitations. This chair was probably made in the latter half of the 19th century.

The drop-in seat, of leather over a frame of wood and webbing, dates from the 20th century. The frame was made by someone who had limited skills but knew what they were doing, possibly a rural joiner.
