BroochThis enamelled bronze brooch was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD. The round disc brooch has two concentric rings of enamel decoration. The inner band is red with raised spots. The outer band was decorated with a scallop pattern. The centre is missing, but probably originally had a raised boss. Brooches were used to fasten clothing, and are understandably a common find on Roman sites.
